Transportation Data Analyst - Civil Engineering Specialist 1
Transportation Development Division - Transportation Data

The Transportation Development Division is focused on developing an efficient, safe transportation system that enhances Oregon's economic competitiveness and livability.
ODOT Transportation Development Division is recruiting for a transportation data analyst to serve as the transportation data technical expert for the traffic systems monitoring, roadway inventory and classification services, geographic information services, automation, and crash analysis and reporting programs.  The transportation data analyst provides technical coordination of transportation engineering data development, maintenance, production, and data analysis within program areas.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical coordination of transportation engineering data development, maintenance, production, and analysis.
  • Provide technical expertise for the use and development of transportation engineering databases.
  • Assist in setting standards for databases used to support transportation data.
  • Produce system documentation to support transportation data systems.
  • Assist in the development of data models and create appropriate databases.
  • Collaborate with Information Systems Branch staff in developing and implementing database solutions.
  • Analyze and develop procedures for merging transportation data and databases.
  • Act as transportation engineering data expert for the Transportation Data Section.
  • Develop computer programs to conduct engineering data analysis and generate reports. 
  • Maintain Transportation Data Section data dictionary.
  • Assist in the production of transportation engineering data products to meet the requirements of state and federally mandated programs.
  • Educate internal customers about the appropriate use of engineering transportation data.
  • Ensure data accuracy and adherence to data standards.
  • Develop standards and testing techniques to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Assist in the daily maintenance and production of Transportation Data Section databases and products.
  • Create reports, analyze results, and modify engineering transportation data to ensure data consistency.

Qualifications, Required & Requested Skills

Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, surveying, or transportation-related engineering and one year civil engineering or surveying experience.
An associate's degree in engineering technology or surveying from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and two and one-half years of engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group.
Four years of para-professional engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group.
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s).

  • Experience with productivity software such as Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Experience successfully working both independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience with documenting data processes and procedures such as those listed in supplemental question eight.

Working Conditions:

  • Requires fieldwork at customer locations.
  • Scheduled work shift varies depending on customer availability.
  • Occasional overnight travel required.
  • Typical office environment 20% of the time. Work with a visual display terminal 80% of the time.
  • May require lifting up to 60 pounds.
