Journeyman or Apprentice Electrical Line Worker

The strength of our grid lies in the strength of our teams and our Line Workers are everyday heroes who ensure that our customers can depend on Otter Tail Power for their modern lifestyles. OTP is seeking full-time Journeymen or Apprentice Electrical Line Workers.

To begin, these new employees will be temporarily located in the following communities, and we are inviting applicants to list 3 preferred locations within their application:

• In Minnesota: Bemidji, Canby, Fergus Falls, Pelican Rapids

• In North Dakota: Devils Lake, Garrison, Langdon, Oakes, Wahpeton

• In South Dakota: Milbank

These positions will in many cases require moving into another location within the Otter Tail Power Company service territory as those positions become available. Line Workers’ days vary, and some duties will include maintaining or repairing overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems and substations. They’ll also frame and erect poles and attach necessary fixtures and equipment. They’ll string, sag, and splice conductors (wires) and connect transformers and other equipment, trim trees, replace such equipment as broken insulators, split crossarms, cutouts, ties, faulty clamps or braces, and perform similar replacement or repair work as necessary to clear up storm damage. We’re seeking candidates who have a diploma from an accredited line worker program and a valid, unrestricted interstate commercial driver's license. Candidates must have knowledge of electric line construction, maintenance, and repair, be able to work outdoors in any weather, be able to climb, have complete knowledge of safety rules and can get along well with others. The selected candidates will be expected to learn to use electrical instruments, to operate hydraulic equipment and to work out of an aerial basket. We also have a comprehensive apprenticeship program designed to develop great journeymen line workers. Any candidate selected will be expected to reside within 17 miles from the headquarters in the assigned location. We believe employment is a partnership and to support our talent, we offer competitive wage and benefits package including employee stock ownership options, retirement savings fund with employer match, health insurance plan options and more.

Applications will be accepted through November 27, 2022. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
