Job Description:

NY Creates is seeking applicants for the position of a Metrology Engineer to work in its 300mm semiconductor development facilities. This successful candidate will need to lead and contribute to semiconductor hands on fabrication of process development projects to advance new products from concept phase thru manufacturing phase.

This Engineering position is for a Manufacturing Engineer / Tool Owner specifically for the Thin Films (PVD/CVD) sector in the NYCREATES 300mm fab facility. Manufacturing Engineer duties will include, but not be limited to owning and maintaining AMAT Endura / Producer / Olympia Toolsets. Other duties are as follows:

Maintain and control various vendor tools to tight specifications dedicated by the needs of the technologies.
Establish process specifications and control charts for tool monitoring
Utilize SIVIEW (MES) to implement the building of routes for tool controls as well as building WSPC charts for tool monitoring

The tools will be controlled using SPC charts and Western Electric Rules.

  • Learn various toolsets across multiple tooling vendors 
  • Recover tool faults/fails
  • Develop process recipes for customers and partners
  • Learn other sectors for example WETS/RIE/Metro/etc. to provide backup for fellow peer engineers and to be well rounded.
  • Manage technicians to support the fab for 24/7 coverage.
  • Track and process lots on tools as needed for the business commitments
  • Responsible for writing operational procedures (MPS) for each toolset/processes
  • Responsible for the backing up of tool parameters and process recipes at some set time interval
  • Able to train and certify operators to process these tools after releasing of the tool to OPS
  • Develop a good working relationship with all the FSE that support the tools.
  • Manage time effectively between business/ process/ equipment support
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

This position is responsible for equipment installation and qualification, advanced process development, evaluation, and characterization targeting advanced semiconductor applications; thorough 300mm equipment and process qualification specific to front end of line (FEOL), middle of the line (MOL) and back end of the line (BEOL) techniques.  Work focuses on tool ownership in some cases and process development through experimental matrices to determine best known methods for measuring of insulators and conductive materials; lot ownership that achieves fast cycles of learning is required.

The candidate must execute projects based tasks that include tool install, monitoring, and process development working side-by-side with a diverse group of engineers; assume ownership and accountability for successful completion of projects and programs; report results both internally and externally with presentation and formal report packages; interact with other engineers in areas of design, growth, fabrication and test to facilitate fabrication and device optimization.

The successful applicant must be able to interface effectively with fab operations, process maintenance, and semiconductor engineering professionals from client companies.   Must exhibit self-discipline and be able to work under minimal supervision.  Must react to tool downs and report daily on status of tools until tools are requalified and fab operation resumes.  Must be accountable for individual results and for the impact of the results on the team.  Accuracy, quality and productivity are all required.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain tool heath, monitor quals and SPC charts, recover tool faults, and control tool time
  • Communicate status of tools including but not limited to extended downs/upgrades
  • Schedule PM(s) with vendors and build/ communicate requal plans to return tools back to OPS
  • Operate SiView applications
  • Assist in Process Development for partners and customers
  • Keep partners' and customers' IP secure
  • Learn other sectors for peer to peer support
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements for Thin Films Engineer

  • B.S./ M.S. degree in Materials Science, Physics, or equivalent Engineering and/or Science discipline AND 1+ years of experience working in the semiconductor industry in Manufacturing/ Process Development.

AND

  • Exhibit solid leadership ability, be familiar with SPC/DOE methodologies, and be willing to execute a variety of tasks on short notice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ Years Thin Films Manufacturing Engineering Experience
  • Working knowledge of SiView (MM and SM) and Klarity
  • Familiarity and experience with FEOL, MOL and BEOL applications
  • Applications related to CMOS and memory (RRAM & MRAM) applications.
  • Material characterization and material properties specific to application and technology.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, DOE, and yield/defectivity analysis software
  • Program Management Experience

Salary Range: $80,000 -$125,000 *Posted rate is dependent on experience and education position level offered. 

Assistant Engineer - $80,000 - $100,000

  • Establishes plans and conducts engineering analysis on moderately complex problems.

Associate Engineer - $95,000 - $125,000

  • Establishes plans, defines approaches, and conducts engineering analysis on complex problems. 
  • Provides technical guidance to other professionals. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of the technological environment.
