SENIOR PLANNER Ypsilanti Township is seeking a highly responsible and organized person to join the Township Planning Department Team. The Senior Planner performs advanced-level planning work, assists the Township administration, aids with updating Master Plan, Zoning Ordinance or other Planning related documents, generates high level planning reports and zoning reviews. Works directly with local businesses and developers helping to guide candidates through the Townships entitlement process to achieve successful projects. This is a hands-on position that will work side by side with the Building Division and Code Compliance. Applicant must have: Considerable knowledge of land use principles and urban planning. Knowledge of zoning and site development rules, regulations, and ordinances. Knowledge of the principles and practices of Township government and public administration. Interpersonal skill to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to compile and analyze statistical and technical data. Demonstrated communication skills to present facts and recommendations effectively in written and oral form. Ability to perform mathematical computations. Ability to read and interpret specifications, blueprints and drawings. Ability to comprehend complex issues and identify alternative solutions and prepare appropriate recommendations. Ability to recognize and handle stress. Skill in the use of computer word processing, spreadsheet, database and GIS software. Must have good vision, hearing, physical mobility and verbal communication. Must be able to drive and possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record. Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field required. Minimum of 5 years demonstrating progressive experience working in a municipal planning office or in private planning practice assisting local governments. AICP Credential preferred.
