Engineer Technician
This position works with SWCD, USDA-NRCS and other partners to provide the engineering assistance necessary for landowners, community groups and local government units to plan, implement and maintain a variety of conservation practices. The engineering technician position is a professional position requiring a diverse background in pre-planning, problem evaluation, problem solving, and design and installation of structural and biological conservation activities addressing non-point source pollution.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Two year vocational degree in engineering, natural resource management or equivalent post-secondary education;
• A minimum of 5 years of field experience in soil conservation engineering and design
• Proficient knowledge of the use of computer-aided design and drafting software (preferably AutoCAD Civil 3D), ArcGIS, and GPS surveying equipment.
• Current Engineering Job Approval Authority (EJAA) for NRCS Practice Codes 638, 412 & 410 is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills; capable of working effectively with individuals in the public, private, and government sectors; self-motivated: able to work with minimal supervision.
• Valid driver's license, physical ability to carry equipment over rough terrain and ability to perform outdoor work in all seasons of the year. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Essential Job Functions and Duties:

• Apply engineering skills and knowledge to a variety of engineering projects, from conception through completion, including preparation of preliminary engineering reports, cost estimates, preparation of detailed plans and specifications, construction supervision and inspection, and final certification of completed projects.
• Document current engineering projects and reports work accomplished to District Manager and participating SWCDs. Schedule projects with SWCD and RRVCSA field staff and assist landowners in project initiation, pre-construction conferences, and completion.
• Review complex engineering plans for Engineers' approval; perform CAD drafting for engineered projects.
• Perform technical work according to the NRCS Field Office Technical Guide, under minimal supervision; Coordinate the work of engineering survey crews and construction inspection; maintain progress records and field notes for reporting and quality control
