DESCRIPTION The New Jersey Department of Transportation is accepting applications for candidates interested in Civil Engineer Trainee (CET) positions for the Division of Operations. Civil Engineer Trainees are assigned a 40 - hour work week. Current starting salary is $53,268.53 and after six months is $55,732.50. Benefits include medical, prescription drug, dental and pension.

Operations Support is responsible for providing engineering and operations support to the Department, preparing and promulgating direction pertinent to roadway and bridge engineering and operations, providing emergency response to roadway and bridge emergencies to address health and safety hazards on the highway transportation system, maintaining and operating movable bridges and tunnel systems in accordance with State and Federal regulations, managing the Department's fleet of vehicles and equipment, and overseeing emergency management for the Department.

The Bureau of Bridge and Roadway Maintenance Engineering and Operations, within the Division of Operations Support, performs engineering design, construction and inspection work to maintain our highway pavement and riding surfaces. Maintenance engineering responsibilities for this Unit include, but are not limited to, resurfacing projects, pavement preservation projects, drainage repair projects, storm water management projects, hot mix asphalt repair, guiderail repair and replacement, and other on - call regional repair projects. Work within this unit is complex and includes design, construction, and inspection activities that are critical during times when emergency response is paramount.

Work experience within this unit WILL NOT qualify as approved Design Experience for the issuance of a NJ PE License

REQUIREMENTS Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.

Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States according to the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. NJDOT does not provide sponsorship or accept student/OPT program, F1 or H1B work authorization visas.

Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14 - 7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act."
